SNEHAJWALA

Dear friend,
Let me ask you straight…. Are you a person leading a luxury life? Do other's sufferings irritate you, and do you think that their problems are never to be considered WTF matters? Then, this article is not for you. You may simply skip this post so that you can use that saved five minuts to plant a few precious trees in Farmville.

OK. So, let us come to the point. Here, I would like to introduce to you a group of good souls, led forward by a dedicated institution, whose work makes us realize time and again that the spring of human kindness is eternal.

Sneham, in Malayalam means love and jwala is flame; Snehajwala is both, and more. It is a refuge for the lonely and the ailing. These are people abandoned by their families, physically and mentally broken, plagued by poverty and disease alike, without a roof above their head and towards whom the society has turned a blind eye. The volunteers of Snehajwala are people who have dedicated themselves to love and serve these suffering and needy fellow beings.

Let me introduce the man who is the pillar of strength leading this group – Thankachan. Thankachan was leading his life as a well to do farmer in Iritti in Kannur district, Kerala, India. He came to Palakkad district 15 years ago as a tower line contractor for the ‘Kanjikkode-Madakkathara Electricity project’. Thankachan happened to hear about the terrible situation of the patients suffering in the isolation ward of the Palakkad District Govt hospital from sister Rosily, who was working as a nurse there. Thankachan immediately came forward to help these people, and in a short time span started gathering likeminded people for Snehajwala. Thankachan’s daily routine, which begins at 3 in the morning includes, taking care of almost 40 old people, distributing food for more than 200 people and many other humanitarian deeds.

More than 200 poor and needy patients of the Palakkad Districh Govt hospital are fed once a day for last 13 years by the volunteers of snehajwala.

The help extended include, helping economically weak patients in need of specialist treatment to reach Medical college hospital, taking orphaned and mentally challenged people left to roam the streets to various institutions for them, handing over abandoned children to various govt agencies, helping HIV patients, arrange blood donors for poor patients, help economically weak patients to buy medicines, help orphaned patients to get themselves admitted in orphanages once they are discharged from hospitals etc…

In addition to all these, they have built a safe haven for the orphaned and the diseased. “Snehajwalabhavanam”, was built in 2002 with the aim of providing a shelter for orphaned people found in hospital and streets. This home shelters men and women providing them food, clothes, and treatment. Built with the aim of helping these suffering lives, Snehjwalabhavanam, for last 8 years has helped these people to live like human beings, away from hunger, disease and loneliness.

I have an appeal before you. A small part of the money that we spend on luxuries can help the inmates of snehajwalabhavanam to stay away from hunger. This group that stands for human kindness needs our help. I invite you to join hands in helping those brothers of ours, looking up to us with hope. Till date the strength of Snehajwala is the moral and financial help and support of the general public.

Proving food for the inmates of snehajwala costs 1500 per day. Almost same amount is additionally needed every day for distributing food in the District Hospital. In addition to this, there are medicines and other expenses. Even if you can take care of one day’s expenses, it’s a huge help for them. Let’s remember them on days of our successes, birthdays, death anniversaries of our beloved ones etc. and offcourse, we will definitely have the blessings and prayers of the old grandparents of snehjwala with us.
